About SongPop

SongPop is a music guessing game created by NYC-based startup FreshPlanet Inc. It is a social multiplayer game in which players must recognise songs or artists.

After selecting a themed playlist, five songs are played. Players compete against each other to be the first to select the correct song title or artist from a choice of four. The faster a player guesses, the more points they get. Players earn more songs in a playlist by earning stars, that are public to any opponent. These stars are gained by answering 3 or more consecutive songs correctly in a round.

SongPop 1 was released in May 2012, and was first available on iOS, Android, and Facebook - an Amazon Kindle Fire version was later released in 2013. SongPop was awarded "Best Facebook Game of 2012" by Facebook users, "Social Gaming People's Voice Winner 2013" by the Webby Awards, and "Best Online Game of 2013" by the British Academy Games Awards. As of 2015, SongPop 1 had more than 100 million downloads and had reached a peak of 4 million active daily users. The game was discontinued in October 2018.

SongPop 2 was released in June 2015. Alongside a new design, it introduced Party Mode, which is described as a "tournament-style mode that allows players to test their skills without needing to wait around for their opponent to make a move", as well as the ability to play alone, against Melody, a computer-controlled opponent. Players can also try the playlists for free. A Windows app was also introduced for PC users.
